Next Generation Placement Tests

For university language centres: a whole cohort in a week

At the start of every semester a language centre has to sort hundreds of students into groups within days. NGPT does the sorting without booking a single computer room.

No room, no invigilator, no schedule

Students take the test on their own phone or laptop, whenever they like within the 30 days the link is valid. Each one's questions are drawn afresh from the bank, so there is no paper to pass round a student residence.

When the deadline passes you export one spreadsheet: every student, the language, the level, the score and its margin. Groups can be drawn up the same afternoon.

Scales with the intake
Import up to 2,000 students in one file and send the test to a hundred of them at a time. A reminder is one click per student.
Several languages, one scale
English, German, Italian, Spanish and French are reported on the same eight CEFR levels, so one policy covers the whole centre.
Evidence you can show
The method is documented: how questions are measured, when the test stops, and how often it places a candidate on their level or the next.
Connects to your systems
Your student-information system can register students and send tests through the API.

The school portalHow the test works

  1. Before lectures start, import the list of students enrolled in language modules.
  2. Send the test, with your deadline written into the invitation.
  3. Two days before your deadline, remind those who have not started.
  4. Export the results and form groups by language, level and score.
  5. Late arrivals get the same test by link, any day of the year.
